When I download a program from the internet it says it will go to the Temporary Folder. I reach this folder by going to C drive\Program Files\Temporary Folder. This folder never contains the program. I do a search and it does not uncover the program. I can not find this program. Any thoughts, other than I'm crazy? James

Display

Any idea is appreciated: WAX Dell Lap Top. Is there any reason that the desktop display does not fill up the entire screen at a 1024X768 resolution or any other resolution after the computer boots up? The display is perfect for a second or 2 and then it reduces and the left and right portion of the screen is black for about an inch. If I go to Control Panel/Display/Settings should the 2 boxes be checked? i.e.. "use this device as the primary monitor and Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor"?

windows installer

Whenever I try to install a new program (i.e. itunes) it completely downloads the file, but just before it would install, a window pops up saying that another installation is in progress, and that it must be completed first. I happen to know that installations dont last 6 weeks, which is how long ive been having this problem. If anyone could give me directions as of how to cancel the "installation" that is already in progress, or another means of stopping the problem, this would be greatly appreciated (note: i am not the smartest when it comes to computers, so please explainit in step-by-step directions if possible) thank you

WIndows server 2003 Indexing server issue
by Guest CLarke- 0 replies

I have created a Catalog in Computer Management and can query this catalog in COmputer Managemen and it works. I wanted to make this Catalog available to all users on the Network via a web page. According to Microsoft this can be done. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825487 When you use this asp script it will return the expected results in the web page but only on the WEB catalog and not the new catalog I have created. If you let it do the index of 300000+ documents it will come back and index one particular folder down the tree and ignore the rest, but there seems nothing different about that folder. I tried to add the folders i want indexed into the…

search unicode docs from Windows Explorer
by Guest Joe- 1 reply

Message: I am trying to use the XP Windows Explorer search function. I am trying to search documents, including Microsoft Outlook email documents (.msg) that I copied from Outlook to My Documents directory. Windows Explorer "Search" can not find simple strings that are contained in the documents. I looked at the document format. It seems that these documents are using Unicode format. Mr Gates, Please fix. All I want is to search the Unicode documents for Ascii text. I am looking for the document that contains the name "Fooks" for example. Your search function should translate the Unicode to Ascii for searching purposes.

hi all. Oh dear! I tracked a problem, but I need more help in fixing it. I just bought a new sapphire 9600xt, to replace a "crappy" nividia gf5200. [yes, the graphic improvements are Treeeemendus!] I was somewhat mystified when my Gothic II would stop at the game loading screen when the exe called it up, even though this old card would not work well, i expected to be able to get maybe to the loading screen, at least. my new 9600xt has the same problem! also morrowind will also not load. but baldurs gate II and neverwinter nights will load. at first i thought this was an issue with the new cd-rw rom. The morrowind files has a "program flow" sheet…

Windows XP-64 backup
by Guest Arthur MacLeod- 1 reply

I am trying to use the backup utility that shipped with Windows XP-64 Professional. Windows on this Dell 470 64 bit computer is up to date, service pack 2. When I try to run a normal backup, I get the following fail message: Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1. Timeout before function completed While searching through the internet, I read that 32-bit backup programs running under a 64-bit operating system will not work. Is this true of the backup utility shipped with my OEM version of Windows? I was using a 32 bit Windows XP until the hard drive for that system failed. I installed a new (second) drive and decided to install Vista 64 …

I'm getting no USB icons in the systray when I plug something in. Everything works OK, but then I have no way of stopping the item before I unplug. So I just go ahead and unplug it. I get a little "pop" noise, but no error messages.

Windows 2003 x64 sp1 Without rebooting, how can I tell how many procs my box has? Task manager shows 4, system info shows 4, and I "think" I have 2 dual-core procs. I need to know for sure, without bouncing the box. I also want to make sure that 1 dual-core hyperthreaded proc doesn't show up as 4 procs. Thanks, Andre
