process for hyperlinks
by Guest PAULinLAOS- 3 replies

I have set up Access Manager on my computer to limit what programs can/cannot be opened on my User Account so that people who use the computer cannot play around with two many things and to minimize virus opening up. In Access Manager, you have select every program file to allow it to work. Now, I have a problem in that when I click on hyperlinks in a Word document or an Outlook file, I cannot open the link. This is because I have not allowed, in Access Manager, the program file that makes hyperlinks work between programs. So, I am looking for the name of the file that must be burried in Windows that actually allows the computer to open hyperlinks with…

Cannot change entries for "Access This Computer From The Network"
by Guest Polaris431- 1 reply

I have little knowledge of Windows 2003 or Active Directory so please bare with me. I have a Windows 2003 server connected on a LAN that also has a Domain Controller. Something happened a few days ago (don't know what) and it is no longer possible to access the server over a network. The guy who owns the system played around with Active Directory on the Domain Controller to see if he could get things working again but to no avail. After digging around, I discovered that there is a local policy on the server that is called "Access This Computer From The Network". It has only two entries in the list and neither of these are the defaults. In fact, not even adm…

by Guest Kansana- 0 replies

I have to set the standby timeout value of the system to 10 minutes. To achieve this, I have created a custom power scheme with the required power settings and have set this power scheme as the active one using PowerCfg.exe. Powercfg.exe sets the power scheme for the current user. Please let me know how can I make All Users have the same power scheme. Thanks, Kansana

Intel Server Manager uninstall
by Guest Anthony- 3 replies

Howdy, I'm running SBS2003, Service Pack 2 (NOT R2), and I've run into kind of a pesky problem. We recently installed Intel Server Manager 8.30, updated to 8.40, then uninstalled because it wasn't very useful in our environment. Unfortunately, something seems to have stuck around, as I now get a dialog box starting configuration of Intel Server Manager, which then fails about 5 seconds later with a dialog box about being unable to find the InstallHelper.dll. This happens whenever I make changes to the Windows configuration or install software/updates, so it's kind of annoying, as it repeats 10 or 11 times before giving up. In addition, our event log repor…

Unexplained delays access files in windows share from explorer
by Guest Jim Helfer- 2 replies

I am using Windows XPsp2 PCs to access a few windows shares on a Windows 2003SP2 server. Over a 100Mbit or Gigabit connection. (I am transitioning from 100 to 1Gig switches. This problem has stayed constant no matter the speed of the network.) Sometimes when you log in and open Windows Explorer, the share will not appear until after a delay of a few minutes. Sometimes when you open the share from Explorer, there will be a delay (arrow-hourglass and blank right side pane). of usually 10-15 seconds, sometimes as long as 30-45 seconds before the files are displayed. After that, the performance accessing files seems normal. Sometimes however, t…

Not sure whether this is the right group... Windows Desktop Search returns no results for ( for example) scanpst.exe. The Search Companion returns the location almost instantly. WDS has been installed for some months so indexing shouldn't be a problem. Why doesn't WDS find files? Thanks

Processor utilization on Multi Processor Servers
by Guest Riaan de Bruyn- 0 replies

Hi All I've noticed that processes which would normally fully utilizes processors like winzip or winrar etc. only utilizes the capacity of one (1) CPU in a Multi Processor environment via Terminal Services. If you log on to the console of a Terminal Services server, the process will use all CPU's to almost 100% utilization. But through a terminal services session it seems to be limited to use only one CPU. Is this by design or is there a workaround / configuration to all a single process to use more CPU power if available in terminal services? Kind Regards

Windows XP Folder Permissions
by Guest klumpy- 1 reply

I have set up a directory structure for a project and set varying permissions for different subfolders. I would like to copy this directory structure for each new project I set up, and to have the permissions remain with the new copy. Simply "copy/paste""dragging and dropping" or ""dragging and dropping" the directory structure doesn't copy the permissions. Is there a way to easily copy these permissions?

Something's got wrong by adding a new DHCP reservation: - the reservation is currently not shown - neither the IP address nor the MAC address is shown in view “Active Leases” - when I try to repeat the reservation, I get the error “An error occurred while accessing the DHCP database. Look at the DHCP server event log for more information on this error. - on DHCP server event log is nothing related logged. - the client gets no address by booting or ipconfig /renew. - event log of the client has logged first, that the requested IP address is currently in use by another client (warning). After rebooting a lot of DHCPNACK’s are logged. - I did a backup of the …

Install Software Remote via Mapped Drive gives "Go To The Control Panel" Error
by Guest Bobbie Weeks (Ms)- 2 replies

Install Software Remote via Mapped Drive gives "Go To The Control Panel" Error I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this. On PC1, I've got a shared folder which contacts installation files for a program. Using a batch file, on PC2, I map to the shared folder on PC1 (which works) and start the install file called setup.exe. I get an error occur then saying "Please go to the control panel to install and configure system components". However, if while still mapped, I browse to the mapped drive and double-click the setup.exe file, it works! Why is this and how to I get it to work automatically through the batch file without erroring?

Question about SIMM and DIMM combination in an old computer.
by Guest thanatoid- 10 replies

Hello gang, I know this is not strictly 98-related but I know there are some real brains in here. As some of you may recall, I have a computer which will be 10 years old in September. It works fine. Really. Please don't just tell me to throw it in the trash and get a new one. When it dies for good, I will. At the moment I need nothing more. {I have a 2GHz machine for things requiring more speed than 166MHz offers (which incidentally - IMHO - does not include accessing the internet).} Anyway, the almost-10-yrs-old machine has a PC Chips M572 MB, with 6 RAM slots. 2 are DIMM, 4 are SIMM. It can take a total of 256MB of memory and the manual p…
