Windows XP Registry Cleaner
by Guest jeremiah wright- 6 replies

If you have a new computer, then you will definitely need a Windows XP registry cleaner. I think the registry itself is not going to need fixing, if you don't ever do anything to your computer. But, once you start installing software, uninstalling software, making shortcuts on your desktop to your favorite programs, and even surfing the internet, you will need a good Windows XP registry cleaner. Let us cover the basics on what the registry files do, and why they are important. The registry files are the files, which tell the computer how a program is supposed to operate. It gives the basic instructions on what the program is suppose to do, and when it is suppose…

can TS be used for restricted access to 1 application

Hello all, New to this group, but I've been a programmer (mainly small time database stuff) for about 15 years. I am wondering if it is possible to allow a remote connection to be established to Windows Server, that is only permiited to run 1 application? What I have is a client I am programming for and they do not want thier clients to have to download any sort of component or anything in order to run an application. I was initially designing an ASP .NET 2.0 application, but it requires the .NET download. I explained to my customer that this should not be a major issue, since it is a Microsoft component that is quickly becoming the de facto standard …

HP dc7800 unable to wake using USB mouse

Hi I have a very frustrating issue. I've got a HP dc7800 which I would like to be able to wake from sleep using a USB mouse - It's just a standard two button scroll mouse that came with the PC, nothing fancy. It's running Win XP Pro. I've looked at both the mouse and usb properties in control panel and device manager and nowhere is there any option to tick to say "use this device to wake from sleep" or similar. I've also looked in the BIOS and theres nothing there either. Infact the only things mentioned in the BIOS under the Power option (but I've looked in other areas, too) are: Runtime Power Management - Enabled Idle Power Savings - Extended ACPI S…

Getting log files for a single programme...
by Guest Sonnich Jensen- 0 replies

Hi all! We have problems with a programme, which at one customers site crashes. It has its own logfile, but that does not tell us much. I recall win98 having separate log files for each executed prg, which could be usefull now. The prg just dies (closes without anything so they say) and the *.evt files and our logfiles does not tell anything. The only thing I can see is that our "end marker" is missing, but our "start marker" is there, some minutes after the last action (which is normal action), so we are missing that in between. As I understand it, there is not even a window asking "this prg needs to close". Can I get other logfiles, as I could on W98…

I have the license sticker on the PC, which CD should I use?
by Guest Gianni- 2 replies

An _OLD_ Fujitsu Siemens PC in my office has two licenses sticked on it. One is a windows 2000 Professional OEM which is actually installed. The other is an XP-Professional; apparently a Retail one. (there are no OEM markings on the sticker). The sticker is different than any other on the microsoft "how to tell" site, but I think it is genuine. The code on the sticker (VFGQ3-BC9PC-TPFQP-TPKTX-4J4W6) won't work with any media I tried. The original media is lost and Fujitsu won't replace it anymore. Can you tell me which media do I need ad if I can get it from Microsoft EMEA? Can you also tell me if this code will allow the upgrade of win2000 or if I ne…

Adjusting Start menu Size
by Guest Danger_Duck- 3 replies

I'm not sure what the name is, but I'll describe it the best I can. When I click Start->All Programs, a three columned menu pops up on my computer. Now, I feel like that these three columns are too wide, and the icons are okay, but it would be nice if they were smaller too-that is, so that if they were downsized all the program shortcuts could fit on 2 rather than three rows. Where do I adjust the settings for width and height of this menu and what is it called? I didn't find anything in Right click->properties of the start menu. Oh, and also, in the bottom right corner (taskbar?) many applications load up on startup. So many, in fact, tha…

When I start my PC and the screen comes up it just says "To begin, click your user name" but there is nothing there to click so I can log in. On the PC I have these accounts-Administrator,1 user. and something called asp I think. The PC was working fine until I used a tweaking prog so I guess I did something wrong. But I can't get in! I've tried everything but nothing works. Thank-you

"Access Denied" for Home Directories
by Guest NetGoofy- 2 replies

Not sure which Group to post this. All network users "Home Directories" are configured in AD under the Profile Tab H: - \\servername\users\%username% I have a few (2 to 4) users that receive an "Access Denied" message when they attempt to open thier (H:) drive. This doesn't happen all the time - it is very spartic. All I do to correct the issue is disconnect the (H:) drive and re-map it and unchecking the "connect at login" option - because I know it will reconnect because of thier profile settings when they login - and it does. They don't have to reboot/logout-login or anything of that nature. By just being able to re-map the drive tells me tha…

Accessibility using NNPT based Newsgroups. 1 2
by Guest Ibex- 37 replies

My OS is WinXP Pro SP3. I reside in a less developed part of SEAsia. I used to be on a dial-up connection but about 9 months ago changed Internet Service Provider (ISP) who is providing me now with an ADSL connection of variable speed. Since about 3 weeks or so, all of a sudden I am unable downloading/sending messages from various NNPT based Newsgroups. But accessing (browsing) the Internet and e-mail facilities is not a problem at all. The ISP technicians came to my place 3 times but could not find the problem, in fact they knew little about Newsgroups. They finally suggested replacing the router which was provided by the ISP. Well, I purchased a 'Lin…

Windows uses 4 GB? Really?
by Guest Canyon- 13 replies

I’ve done a lot of research regarding this issue and frankly I’m getting a migraine in the heat of the Southern Oregon 110 degree days! So I quit!!! I bought 4 GB of RAM because I thought it would speed up my system a bit. My motherboard happily stated in its manual that it supports 4 GB of RAM. This crazy issue regarding more than 2 GB of RAM wasn’t readily available I had no idea about it. So… I happily bought 4 GB of RAM and was proud of it! My system seemed to boot a bit faster. Microsoft Office seemed to load a bit faster. Games seemed to run even just a tad faster. I was happy though not ecstatic. But I was shocked when I noticed that My Computer/Pro…
