Mapped drive showing *NT5CSC file system
by Guest Ken G.- 1 reply

I have a desktop running xp pro and NTFS file system and a laptop running XP MCE and Fat32 file system in a network. The desktop sees the mapped drive on the laptop as always disconnected and unavailable to connect and with a file system called *NT5CSC. I believe the different file systems are not a problem in a network, so why is the mapped drive on the laptop always disconnected, and where did that file system come from?

User Rights...

First, I apologize for cross-posting, but didn't realize I was in the "Media Center" forum before I hit post. So, here it is... ---------- Windows XP Home SP2 Broadband Internet I'm setting up a Windows XP Home computer. I have several users on already and all is working just fine and dandy. My issue is this...I would like to enable the Guest account, but can't figure out how to get internet working under that account. So, I figured I'd just create a new user with admin access and simply restrict that individual user to suit my needs. However, as there is no group policy editor, I can't figure out how to do that. Any ideas? Thanx.

I'm running xp pro svc pk 2, on a standalone and it appears that I am hosting a domain that I can't admin. I cannot download, update, install, etc. When I try to update I'm told I don't have admin permission to do so. I cannot get this out. My whole system is running on logs and manifests and my bios and root have been changed. Help me please! I've been working on this for a while, Seagate (my harddrive manf) seems to think that somebody with a wireless router took over my sys. Any solutions? Advice? I thank you in advance for any assist you might provide. kind regards Jean

Hi, I am going to instal a WSUS solucion for a company X. Company X was wondering if there is a web site for monitoring Windows patches as they are released, based on other companies experience with the patches(like a forecast)? -- Best regards, Håvard Kristiansen Technical consultant Message posted via http://www.winserverkb.com

howto get key window robber/thief?
by Guest Philipp Ott, Wien- 1 reply

Hello! I got a strange phenomen running wild on 2 PCs. PC#1 is a real PC (XP up2date, with some Norton AV guard running) and the PC#2 is a virtual (vmware) PC (xp up2date as well, with AntiVir protected). PC#1 uses remote desktop to work on PC#2. So far all is fine and pink. However, often it happens that when people work remote on PC#2 keys get swallowd invisibly and the foreground window is lost, and then a split-second later reactivated. For example: you type a sentence in Word and suddenly the blue title bar starts to flicker blue/gray - and while you continue typing every other character is lost (due to the fact that Word is no longer the keywindo…

Outlook 2003 Memory Usage
by Guest Chuels- 5 replies

Hello Community, this might be a known issue, but I couldn't find a cure for it. We have a so called "Desktop Environment" for a Community which does not run Windows. On of the certified Products is Outlook 2003 SP3 including the actual hotfixes. Monitoring the Servers over a longer period I noticed a very high amout of Memory used by Outlook 2003 which can be up to 150 MB (Private Bytes in ProcExpl). So is there a fix for that Syntom or is it a normal behaviour we will have to work with? (I know the article 827310) Thanks for your help and comments Carsten

Installing Print Drivers on TS, continued from 08-13-08

Thanks to all who commented on my previous post of 08-13-08. I had already read what Jeff Pitsch had suggested and followed that suggestion. Install the printer on TS and then delete the installed printer. That was a very simple procedure, I wonder why I could not find the install instructions anywhere on the many links I have bookmarked for my Terminal Server project. Jeff, thank you!! I have 3 printers working on the terminal server now. I do have a problem though, and wish for direction or suggestions. The first printer I tried to install was a HP 1300 and I was informed it was install on the client machine that was doing the RDC. When I …

Profiles Loading Slow - Need help with advanced logging

Note: Not sure where to post this, but I've also. posted under server 2003 with no response. I'm using Mandatory profiles on PC's in one of my labs on Server 2003 network. The profiles load very slow and I can't figure out why. I don't see anything abnormal in the event viewer and was curious of other ways to do some logging. When I log on, the "Loading your personal settings" is very quick < 5 seconds "Applying your personal setting" is the slow part >60 seconds Logging off also takes significant time also. "Logging off" >40 seconds "Saving settings" <5 seconds The reason I believe this isn't normal is because I have other PC…
