Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 XP x64 analog audio problem
by Guest Mike De Petris- 9 replies

I installed an Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 pci board in my AMD 3000+ XP x64 pc, all the driver and software installation goes well. Digital tv and radio channels are ok (still to try sat has I need a cable) but I have problem with analog tv and radio channels, the audio is scattered and cpu goes high in this situation. Seems to me strange that digital channels are ok, where analog gives problem, so I think I should update some driver or codec, how do you suggest to proceed? May it be an hardware fault or incompatibility? There is no audio cable, audio goes directly to the pci bus, the four tuners of this board use a new technique that digitizes all the signal t…

Hi all: Trying to do a fresh install on an older Thinkpad Laptop. It's a IBM Thinkpad 2647-AMU with the following specs: PIII 700MHz (256KB), 256MB RAM, 12.0GB HDD, 14.1 TFT 1024x768 LCD, 6x-2.3x DVD drive, 3Com combo Setup hangs with either 35 or 34 minutes to go. It's got to be some hardware issue and I was just wondering if anybody knew offhand what it is. Thanks Tom Young

clean installation problems
by Guest Pamela G- 4 replies

I finally got my bios to recognise the new HD by disabling the Promise drivers and making sure the SATA drivers were loaded. I am trying to load Windows XP on it as a clean install. But I am running into a bunch of errors that stop the installation and cannot find them discussed in the MS knowledgebase. I have both an OEM version of XP Pro, and aftermarket XP home and Pro. I have tried using both, with similar problems. It would make more sense if I got the same error message each time, but no! Ideas please? With the OEM disc: 1st try: File pci.sys is corrupted 2nd try:File intelide.sys is corrupted 3rd try: File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. …

Win XP 64 cannot see SATA drive
by Guest keithrider- 2 replies

Hi there My PC has a removable HD Caddy, so I can use other OS. I thought that I would upgrade, and put in a Maxtor DiamondMax 320Gb SATA drive, to use as extra storage, accessible for all the various OS. Windows Vista can see and use it, without me needing to do anything, and also Ubuntu 8. Win XP 64 Pro cannot see it. On boot up, if I look in the SATA bios, the HD is listed, but I cannot do anything as nothing is ‘highlighted.’ But I don’t think this would solve the problem. I have an Optronix MB OP-K9A8PRO-ALF, chipset Via K8T800Pro+VT8237 with an AMD 64 3500, and 2Gb Ram. The Optronix CD is no help, and the company seem to have disappeared now. I co…

Once upon a time my desktop icons had no color background for names so the text appeared to be floating on the wallpaper, rather than on a solid color (Appearance/advanced/icon - both item and font color were grayed out) I only want a color back for selected items. Is there a reg key that will reset it? Thanks

Icon Problems
by Guest Kieron Capehorn- 1 reply

The file types of media files on my PC have got mixed up. Most media files on my PC now have the Winamp filetype as their icon in Windows Explorer, even though they do not open in Winamp when you double click on them by default. In addition, in the 'File Type' section of Explorer, all of these files are listed as 'Winamp Media File', even though they are associated with other programs, such as WMP9 and flvPlayer. How can I put this right? Thanks

How to Print a .gif file From a Batch File
by Guest Steve Behman- 7 replies
I have a .gif file which, when "dragged", to a printer prints correctly as an image. When I attempt to get the same result from a batch file using: "print /d:printername file." I get garbage output. When I omit the printer name argument I get a dialog asking several irrelevant things. What I want to do is accomplish the same result as the drag-and-drop operation did in a batch file (i.e. the correct printing of the .gif file as the image it represents).

Can ping default gateway but cannot access internet
by Guest Anosh- 3 replies

Hi, I'm stumped by a networking issue I'm hoping someone can help with. I have a Windows XP Pro (SP2) computer connected to the internet via a D- Link 524 Wireless router and a cable modem connection. I also have a VoIP phone adaptor connected to the same router. Here's the problem. For some reason the VoIP phone adaptor connects to the internet just fine, however the computer does not. The router's address is 192.168.0.1 The computer gets an IP of 192.168.0.100 (assigned by DHCP). I have verified that the computer's default gateway is set to 192.168.0.1. If I ping yahoo.com, it resolves the correct address 206.190.60.37 but is unable to ping yahoo.com …
