Remote Terminal Services
by Guest ~~Alan~~- 2 replies

I am asking a question concerning Windows Server 2003 as I can not find a NG for server 2003 on this M/S news server. Please find it in your heart to forgive me. I am trying to configure Remote Terminal Services and seem to have successfully done so at least on my local lan. I would like to try this from outside. What port(s) and transport(s) (TCP and/or UDP) do I need to open on my router to allow me to connect to a remote session on my server from the Internet? Finally if there is a NG for Windows Server 2003 in English, please advise me of it. thanks, ~alan

My hard drive ,80 (GB), has almost no space left vacant on it. It has 65 (GB) of built in administrators on it, which accounts for most of the problem. What are Built in administrators, do I need them, and what can I do to eliminate this problem? Thanks for any and all help. -- Lester Clark

Re: Disk full error Never mind the RAM count, I re-read the OP. Even at 3.2 Ghz a Celeron is severely limited doing the work you indicate. "R. I'm posting on behalf of a friend who is getting a 301 keyboard error upon booting with the native USB keyboard on her Compaq XP desktop. She purchased a PS/2 keyboard and it works fine, but she highly prefers her Compaq USB keyboard and wants to get it working as it did before. Any troubleshooting assistance will be appreciated. Thanks.

Spontaneous Reboot
by Guest hpoincare- 10 replies

Late model IBM Server Windows2003 Server standard SP2, almost all updates except for the ones dating back a week (or two). The server will go through the POST and then display Windows Splash Screen, then show progress messages; “Starting Windows”, “Applying Security”, “Applying Settings”.. – eventually showing the login (if lucky). But before login, the server will spontaneously shutdown/reboot. I was able to boot to safe mode just fine. No shutdowns/reboots at all in safe mode. The last error in the System event log before shutdown refers to the WSUS. Event ID 1010 “A process serving application pool Wsus Pool failed to respond to a ping” Next …

setup for Visual Studio 2008 Pro Ed. on 64-bit computer

On-line lists of features for VS 2008 list the capability of emitting code for 64-bit computing if VS is installed on a 64-bit computer. Does anyone know if such installation is sufficient to cause VS to emit 64-bit code, or is there additional parameters that must be set during installation or at development time to cause VS to emit 64-bit code? *TimDaniels*

Hi! I am running Windows Terminal Services in Application Mode on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The users at the office premises are gettting access to the server from their desktop with the Remote Desktop Protocol client, through the LAN. Currently they are also able to log on remotely from their home through the Internet. I wish to block this access for some of them. Is there a way to do that? Help appreciated Nicolas

Users must not connect to active session
by Guest Count Blackula- 5 replies

Hi everybody! I have following scenario/problem: W2003 TS running in a school. To avoid too many dead sessions, the session count per user is restricted to 1 session only. Also the "reconnect only from same client" hook is set. In the logon script there is a logoff session that compares username and clientname to a ini-file so that the students can only logon with e.g User01 on Terminal01 User02 on Terminal02 and so on. The problem now is, that some "funny" students discovered, that they can take over a active session from their neighbour by logging on at their trm with the neighbours credentials. Since it is a school there are no passwords set so if user01…

.TMP files suddenly appearing everywhere?
by Guest Henrik- 2 replies

All, Suddenly, temp files with a .tmp suffix have begun to appear in various folders. It looks very much as if temp files associated with documents I've been working on haven't been closed properly -- the files have file name corresponding to a file I've been working on resently, adding some gobbledygook and .TMP. So, for instance, myfile.ppt would create one or more myfile.ppt~RFf097fa.TMP or similar. It has begun some 4-6 days ago. I've added a few software packages but no material changes. I have some 7.5GB free on a 65GB hard disk. Thanks in advance Henrik
