HP printer drivers on a TS
by Guest yaro137@googlemail.com- 9 replies

I'm having a problem installing HP printer driver on a TS to which I'm connecting remotely. Basically when I start the .exe driver file downloaded from HP's website it tells me that I have to use 16bit colour display to run this driver. Why on earth do I need 16bit colour depth to install a bloody driver in the first place?! Anyway, I set up my remote desktop connection to use 16bit colour space just to find out that when I'm connected it gives me 256 colours only. Eventually I extracted the .exe with winrar but now I've got another problem. There are plenty of .inf files in there and I've got no idea which one should I use. Any help on this? Cheers yaro

Windows 2008 Network Level Authentication
by Guest Doug Murphy- 2 replies

Ok, I have read all the threads about CredSSP and XP clients, and have even tested the change sucessfully. My issue is a little broader, however: I have 4,000+ users, with a mix of XP and Vista (probably) that need to access , consistently, a 4 server farm that consists of 2 physical servers and 2 VMs under Hyper-V (these are on another server). All 4 are Windows Server 2008. This is working just fine using a CoyotePoint Equalizer as a hardware load balancer. However, these servers are in a Windows 2003 domain, and we have no plans to change that in the near future. I have no control over the bulk of the remote users, as they are home systems or belo…

Performance

MBR error
by Guest Bob Brown- 5 replies

Hi all, I have a question someone might have an answer to. I have a Compaq desktop (4yrs old) running XP sp2 (has now been updated to SP3). At boot up a couple of days ago I got the message "Master Boot Record Error". I hit "enter" and booted up as normal, there were no obvious problems, everything worked ok as it normally does. After looking through the comments on this site and trying some of the suggestions therein, I decide to do a new install. I've found in the past it's good to get rid of all the crap and re-install. After the re-install I got exactly the same message. So I thought I'd try another drive, well I did and got exactly the same error.…

XP is so much better than Vista. Why don't Microsoft just scrap the whole Vista fiasco and stay with XP? IMHO XP is the best OS on the market. Superior to all others. All replies welcome.

X-Forest GPO Machine Assigned Software Deployment
by Guest cbtg2006- 1 reply

Hi guys, We're in the middle of a migration from a Win2K forest to a Win2K3 forest and I'm having fun with Group Policies. We use GPO to deploy Office 2000 to clients, this is a machine assigned application. I have migrated the policy using GPMC but software deployments do not work from a workstation in the new domain trying to receive the source installation files form a machine in the old domain. I have even tried this with a new policy created in the new domain using MSI source files from the old domain. I guess my question is, initially simple; is it possible to deploy machine assigned software via Group Policy in a multi-forest environment? The fo…

Exemple of command : typeperf "\Process(Explorer)\Thread Count" -s myserver -si 5 or typeperf "\Process(Explorer)\Thread Count" -s myserver -si 00:05 or typeperf "\Process(Explorer)\Thread Count" -s myserver -si 00:00:05 And if you remove the "-si" option, the command line work and display value each seconde... but I would like to poll each 5 secondes with the "-si" option According to this page (http://technet.microsoft.co…

Desktop Icons Do Not Load
by Guest rusty7010- 1 reply

When I go to login to my account on the computer, it takes a long time. Then all that shows up is my desktop background. My Icons will not load up. I get an error message. Sometimes I can get on, at other times I can't. I do not remember the exact wording of the error message. I have Windows XP Home, IE7. Also, I keep getting a "reminder" message to install SP3. But before I do they say to do a backup of the system. I haven't installed the SP3 yet as I don't really know how to do a backup. Could this be the reason for my "icon-loading problems"?

One of our Windows 2003 servers shows that the C: drive is 8.5Gb (don't ask) in Windows Explorer but in Disk Management & Diskpart 17Gb? I think this Drive was 8.5Gb (it's on a SAN HDS) but was extend using Diskpart a while ago. We do use SAN boot via Emulex HBA's. Thanks.

Hello Please help if you can When I turn my computer on it I get a blue screen with the following error message: STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down. I cannot get passed this message, even in safe mode. The only option from here is to turn the computer off at the switch. TS RAP - AD group & FQDN
by Guest Andrew Meinert- 4 replies

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731435.aspx That indicates that with an AD security group, both FQDN and NetBios names will pass the connection policy. I have a bunch of desktops in a security grup and have selected it within TS Gateway. This is the only enabled policy. If I connect to a computer using the netbios name, fine. If it merely append the domain name, I am rejected by the RAP. If I switch to all network resources in the RAP, I can connect using both. Has anyone else encountred the same thing?
