by Guest Ryan250- 1 reply

Goodmorning, I'm currently trying to create a shortcut for XP users on there desktop through a group policy on my Windows Server 2008. It's an EXE file. They can actually access it through a mapped drive I have created for them, however, I would simply like to create a shortcut on there desktop for convenience. I checked the event viewer on the users dekstop and it says "the specific file could not be found." However, I know the file exists and the path is typed in correctly, and my other GPO's deploy successfully. Here is a screen shot of my settings for my shortcut. http://img369.imageshack.us/my.php?image=84006058di1.jpg Any type of help would…

by Guest Cary Shultz- 4 replies

Good evening! Okay - this question is a bit involved: I will try to keep it to the facts! Physical Locations: Co-lo: two WIN2003 SP2 ENTERPRISE Terminal Servers; Exchange 2003 Server; WIN2003 SP2 File Server HQ: 25 users, one Member Server / Print Server....six shared Printers ORD1: seven users, one Printer (shared on HQ server) ATL1: four users, one Printer (shared on HQ server) five various sites....three or four users per site There is a SonicWall Firewall-to-Firewall VPN between each of the locations and "HQ" as well as between each of the locations and "Co-Lo". So, getting from "A" to "B" is not a problem. Sample situation: There a…

I am trying to diagnose a problem with a tiny software application called vdat. BACKGROUND: I have a large live music collection...much of it is recorded onto Digital Audio Tape (DAT). I have a DDS tape drive (Sony SDT-9000) with a special firmware update which allows the drive to read digital audio data and transfer it to my hard drive at up to 4 times normal speed. The software program that controls the tape drive and allows me to choose what portion of the tape I wish to copy is called vdat. I previously ran this application on another PC without any problems. I recently built a new PC...with the identical configuration, but now whenever I try to open …

MDT 2003 applications issue
by Guest Steve P- 0 replies

Hello, I have MDT 2003 installed and it seems to running just fine to install OS, but I cannot get it to install ANY applications. I have followed the instructions included in the documentation that accompanies MDT and have posted questions on several newsgroups and have still not been able to get MDT to serve the applications after the OS install and reboot. As I understand it, there is a script that needs to run after the OS install and it logs into the new install and then runs the app install that was requested during WinPE setup. This never happens on my installs. If I manually fire up the script, then it works, but not otherwise. What am I not do…

I have a legal OEM version of Windows Server 2003 disk and the software is installed on an active machine currently. I am looking to get a newer server and wanted to make sure I don't violate and agreements. Is it OK for me to Install the OS on the new server when I get it If I take the old server out of production and never use it again? I would contact MS about the activation and explain the situation but before I get on the phone and wait on hold forever I thought I would ask here first.
