Guest anonymous@mailinator.com Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I am hoping someone may point me in the right direction. My Lenovo T60 has developed a problem where it shuts down with a Stop Error. The error is always the same, Stop 0x0000007f (0000000d, ... Running Windows XP Pro Is there anyway to trace what may be causing this? My google searches tell me that it could be a hardware problem or a driver problem. Nothing changed in the system directly before the problem started to occur. It does not seem to happen in safe mode which would lead me to believe that it is a software problem (but I could be wrong). Restoring the computer to an earlier time does not seem to solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Guest Gerry Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Re: Stop Error 0x0000007F Background information on Stop Error message http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795478.aspx 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP One of three types of problems occurred in kernel-mode: (1) Hardware failures. (2) Software problems. (3) A bound trap (i.e., a condition that the kernel is not allowed to have or intercept). Hardware failures are the most common cause (many dozen KB articles exist for this error referencing specific hardware failures) and, of these, memory hardware failures are the most common. Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked. -- Hope this helps. Guest anonymous@mailinator.com Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Re: Stop Error 0x0000007F Thanks for all the suggestions. I am beginning to think it is hardware related and very intermittent. Maybe a short somewhere. As of Yesterday, I had no problems for 24hours and counting.
