Guest Dimension 1100 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 What is microsofts policy on validating operating systems that are no longer current. I am thinking of buying a copy of Xp now for installing on a pc in the future, could be 5 years. I don't know whether the fact they may not support it with updates, which no doubt will happen, will also have an effect on validation..
Guest John John (MVP) Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Re: Future Validation Microsoft has officially stated that it would always allow activation and validate Windows XP with the Product Activation mechanism, or that when they decide that they no longer want to bother with it that they would introduce a patch to permanently disable Product Activation and allow XP to run without activation.
