Firefox 3 and XP crashes this site

Here is a problem that was posted over in Mozilla.Support.Firefox on June 24

entitled "FF3 Crashes on this Webpage." It has been thoroughly thrashed out

there but with no solution. I bring it here seeking a solution because

there seems to be a conflict between FF3 and Win XP. I am not the OP and I

hope by bringing it here I have not offended this NG or

Mozilla.Support.Firefox in any way.

Briefly, the problem is that this site http://www.ramonadisposal.com causes

a crash in Firefox and produces an error message saying,"Firefox has

encountered a problem an needs to close...." The error signature is:

AppName: firefox.exe

Appversion 1.9.0.3071 ModName ntdll.dll

ModVer 5.1.2600.5512

and seems to occur when Flash Player tries to show the large image in the

upper right corner of the site. The small image on the left displays

correctly.

Now for the specifics.

I have Firefox 3 installed on my Laptop and my desktop. Both are running XP

Home SP3 and Adobe Flash Player 9.0.124.0. The laptop renders the site just

fine but the desktop produces the error above. I installed Firefox on both

machines from my administrative account (MAIN). If I go to this site while

running as MAIN the error occurs. HOWEVER, if I switch to the guest account

or any other account including the Administrator, the site renders with no

problems. That seems very strange to me.

What I have done:

I have compared the Firefox prefs.js and user.js files on both machines and

they are identical.

I have used the FF Profile manager to run FF on the desktop with the

laptop's profile but the problem still exits.

I have deleted FF on the Desktop and installed it again. No luck

Running FF in the safe mode (firefox.exe -safemode) doesn't solve the

problem. Likewise, booting XP into safe mode doesn't either.

Will someone please give me some help on getting FF to display this site

correctly from my MAIN account on the desktop.

Thank you very much.

I have no issue with the site, but I'm lost on what to say to help you,

except there is a newsgroup just for firefox.

Mozilla.support.firefox. You might get more help with a message posted

there.

Firefox 3 is new. I don't understand why people expect it to perform

like a well vetted product (read: Firefox 2.x. It's still very buggy

and could barely qualify as a final build. You could always try

installing the current nightly beta build of 3.0.1 and see if it works

any better than 3.0. You can download it at the link below. It's dated

July 1st.

Thank you.

I have participated in this thread over on Mozilla.Support.Firefox but, as I

said, no solution was forthcoming.

Thank you. That is worth a try at this point. I usually don't mess around

with betas but in this case I think I will.

Perhaps the reason you are not receiving the reply that you want is that

nobody else is seeing the problem? I've gone to the subject site with FF3 a

couple of times with two radically different computers and everything works

fine -- the Flash movie that you find so problematic is playing as I type.

Not terribly entertaining but it is running. I suggest that you try the

official bug reporting channels at Mozilla to give them all available

information about what you are experiencing. I've heard that they are very

responsive.

Well, the nightly builds aren't too bad and aren't likely to break

anything so for the time being it is a decent option to try. I do know

that they are busily working towards a 3.0.1 release very soon so my

guess is that since 3.0 was released on June 11th, a lot of bugs have

been squashed since then. The nightly build is usually updated once

per day so if you download it tomorrow or a day later, it'll be a

newer build and may fix the bug or crash you're experiencing if the

current build doesn't. Good luck.

Thank you John I know of only one other person who has run into this

problem and he is the OP in the Mozilla.Support.Firefox newsgroup. Your

suggestion about reporting to Mozilla is excellent. I just am not sure how

to go about it.

Thanks again.

Just a thought try downloading the latest Flash Player version 10 (Beta),

remove your present version First, and things

will work better. I've been using version 10 now for 3 weeks , no problems.

RE: Firefox 3 and XP crashes this site

I, too, use this site but have no problems with FF3 and XP. The Flash movie

plays just fine. Have you updated your Flash Player and plugin to the latest

version.....seems I was having this same problem with FF2 a while back.

Other than that, a great site with helpful people for all things Mozilla is

http://sillydog.org/forum/

Hope one of these suggestions help.

Re: Firefox 3 and XP crashes this site

Thank you very much Arte.

BINGO! The version 10 Player (Beta) solved the problem. I guess I still

don't understand why switching to another user permitted it to work. Go

figure.

Thanks again.
