I know there are thousends of similar threads on the web but they are all slightly different and none of the fixes seems to work for me.

I have bought a new PC running Win 8 and an AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card. I have been using my old VGA monitor with no problems but have now bought a new NEC Multisysnc EX231W monitor. I have tried connecting it using a DVI-D cable to the DVI-I connectors on both the graphics card and monitor and using a DVI-D connector on the monitor and a HDMI connector on the graphics card and the monitor switches to sleep mode once windows starts.

I can see the bios flash screen and if I start windows in safe mode the screen works fine. The screen also works fine with my laptop connected by a displayport cable. There is no displayport on the graphics card so I can't try that.

The fact that safe mode works ok seems to point to a graphics card driver problem but I have uninstalled the driver and restarted the pc and still doesn't work. I cant work out how to re install the driver from the disk!

The old VGA screen works fine, can anybody help? Should this be in the graphics card section?

Hi

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from AMD

You can find it here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6670/Pages/amd-radeon-hd-6670-overview.aspx#4

Have you tried to lower the resolution in safe mode and see if it will display on a normal boot?

Hi,

Just to say a quick thanks, I have sorted it, and embarrassingly easily!

Because I have the old VGA screen I have not been using the new screen in safe mode to save having to switch it out of safe mode every time I want to see if it is working. I decided to follow your advice to the letter and changed to safe mode to change the resolution, I went into the monitor on screen menu to change the brightness and there was an option Analogue or Digital and it was set to analogue! Switch to digital, reboot and all working perfectly.
