OneDrive and Symbolic Links

I have been using OneDrive for a couple of years without any problems. I had it set up so that some of the folders that were part of my Onedrive were actually symbolic links to folders on a separate hard drive on my system.

 

A couple of weeks ago my PC died and will no longer power on. All of my drives are OK and I can access the data on them from another PC by hooking them up as USB drives. So no data loss.

 

When trying to set up Onedrive on my new PC I find that I can no longer use symbolic links. When I attempt to create one from a hard drive to my Onedrive the link is created and any files in the folder on the hard drive are copied up to OneDrive.

 

OneDrive reports that all the files are synchronized and t is up to date. However, when I look at my OneDrive folders in File Explorer the folder that has the symbolic link shows a status of "Synch Pending" as do all the files in the folder.

 

I've tried stopping synchronizing and then starting it again. Logging out of OneDrive and back in. Even restarting the PC but every time the folder status remains as synch pending.

 

I'm running the latest version of Windows (1909). I've tried it on the Home and Pro editions with the same results.

 

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

 

I cannot move the folder from the hard drive to the drive where my OneDrive is configured as it is too large.
