maynardvdm Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Hi That is a very low spec cpu and gpu, which is the most important parts for games. If you want reasonable frame rates in games you will have to get a machine with at least a i5 processor and decent graphics, i am not sure which graphics unit on a laptop is the best, but i am sure someone here can tell you. Vr5fx Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Hiya. To add what Maynardvdm has said, Gaming laptops are around twice the amount of a similar spec PC. That linked laptop will run G-Mod, MineCraft and TF2 on average settings. This laptop will allow you to run asked games on LOW to MED http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-15-6-N53SM-Gaming-Laptop-Intel-Core-i5-Nvidia-Geforce-Win-7-Blu-ray-/171002240879?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item27d0871f6f For a good gaming laptop your looking at around £800 - £1000 For a good gaming PC your looking at £500 - 700 My signature shows my system specs, I can achieve very high to ultra on all linked games. Also, that same laptop is £80 cheaper on the Argos Ebay page. http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/330879239169?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla&crdt=0 My advice is to look around for a while, feel free to ask any questions. The Housekeeper Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Could I run the games on this: http://www.johnlewis.com/hp-envy-m6-1205sa-laptop-amd-quad-core-a10-2-3ghz-6gb-ram-1tb-15-6-screen-beats-audio-black/p231836621 Quote
KenB Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Vr5fx ( or one of the other mods here ) is probably best equipped to answer this ....... but in my opinion it looks good. Not sure re. Win 8 ...... Win7 may be a better option ( he said typing this on Win 8 ) Please wait for further assistance before you decide to buy. Vr5fx Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I see we are staying with the laptop idea. That laptop will achieve the following; Garry's mod / TF2 -- MEDIUM (unless your making complex items in G-Mod) Tekkit/Minecraft -- Obviously anything can run these, but on more complex designs it will struggle. Far Cry 3 -- LOW Skyim -- LOW/MEDIUM Call of Duty (depending on which CoD) But probably LOW - MEDIUM Tomb Raider -- LOW These are assuming you want 30+ FPS Source http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7660G-HD-7670M-Dual-Graphics.81173.0.html It's a good laptop, you might get more out of the frames if the resolution is lowered. Honestly, if you want it go for it. But I'll say it again, laptops fail for gaming. If you do buy it, I recommend getting a laptop cooler stand, a reasonable one is £25+, as laptops will overheat quickly playing games. The Housekeeper Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I went to the store and they reccomended this: http://www.johnlewis.com/toshiba-satellite-c855-2eu-laptop-intel-core-i5-2-6ghz-8gb-ram-750gb-15-6-silver/p231820508#default + http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-350v5c-a0e-laptop-intel-core-i5-2-5ghz-6gb-ram-750gb-15-6-silver/p231740135#tabinfo-ratings For gaming but i don't know how reliable they're and how much experience they have with gaming. RandyL Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I like the idea of a laptop cooler stand for any laptop for any reason. I got one for my grandsons laptop with a USB powered fan. Heat is a killer. Laptops have poor cooling. Work the laptop and the end result is not good. My grandson only plays semi moderate games like Minecraft but even that needs more then you think. Even so I also bought him a fairly high end laptop so he could play games like that. For high end games he has a XBOX. For high end games a game device is best cost wise. For medium games a PC might do if the specs are high. For low games like solitare LOL anything will do. But whatever you do I also suggest using a cooler stand with a laptop. Heat kills computers. KenB Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Hi i5 CPU = good Intel HD graphics 4000 video = bad With this price laptop there is always a compromise - and in this case it is the on-board video. If you are serious about gaming you would get a far better spec desktop for the money. Vr5fx Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 This laptop will give you MEDIUM and some HIGH settings on most games, keeping in mind that most settings go from Low -> Medium -> High -> Very High -> Ultra http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360557301818?item=360557301818 That comes with a £700 price tag. For the same price I can build a full system, which would run everything on very high to ultra. But then, I'm just a gamer. :) Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
