Guest MICO1313 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I get an error message #80042301 when attempting backups. I have checked the registry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\System and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\Web and all the settings are correct. the application log has a slew of errors, some are (source, event #) vss, 8193;Perflib,2002;vss,5013;vss,12291;ntbackup,8018;ntbackup,8019. I need to back-up my system but can't. I have just installed an external hard drive to do the back-up but that doesn't help. I have downloaded SP2 for WIN XP Pro but need to do a back-up before I can install. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mico

I currently use Acronis True Image version 10 which works in both XP and Vista. It does full, incremental and differential imaging on a drive or partition basis. Restores can be at the file, folder, partition or drive level. It also does file backup and disk cloning. Look around for the best price. I have seen it as low as $21.99 at Newegg.com. You should always have a full and complete backup. It shouldn't be dependent on getting ready for a system change. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell]
