Guest b_iceman Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I have a windows xp computer on a wireless network. I have had this setup for a couple of years now. Last night I opened internet explorer and it would not load any pages. I went through unplugging the router and cable modem and plugging them back in. I still had no connection to the internet. I opened the router configuration page in internet explorer and confirmed that I had the correct settings from the cable company. I even released and renewed the ip addresses. Everything looks like it should be working fine, but internet explorer 7 and firefox 2 will not load any pages. I am currently on another computer with the same configuration which is obviously working fine. The only thing I can think of is windows update might have installed something that is causing a conflict, but I don't know what or whereto look.

Turn your Modem/Router for about 40 secs or so then your Computer for the same length of time. Turn On the Modem/Router and wait for a 30-40 secs or so then Turn your Computer and try to connect and see if the connection will last. If it doesn't then your winsock is damaged and you need to repair it: Manually : Open a run command and type in: netsh winsock reset click [OK] Reboot your machine. Or download this tool: WinsockFixer; http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html Let it run and when it finished it will prompt you to reboot, do so. Another, try updating the firmware for the Router/Modem.
