Guest Michel S. Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hello ! On an HP Omnibook 6100 Laptop, the system properties tab shows : Intel Pentium III Mobile CPU 1000MHz 727 MHz 512Mb RAM It's a fresh install of XP + the chipset drivers only. BIOS is at its latest version. Laptop is running on AC. APM is disabled in BIOS - but changing this setting doesn't change anything. Why is it running at only 727 Mhz ? How can I make it run at 1Ghz ? Thanks

To me it sounds like a power-saving feature or a hardware defect. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Guest RalfG Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Re: CPU not running at full speed.. Why ? Yeah, CPU stepping maybe. Could be a BIOS setting to turn it off. Maybe even a too low temperature sensor setting. Unless the CPU is actually running too hot. HP support or laptop forums would be the place to ask.. Guest z1z1z1 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: CPU not running at full speed.. Why ? Try actually running some program that gets your CPU up to 100% usage, then look at the speed while this is running. If the CPU is idling, it does no good to idle faster, so it will shift down in speed. Many processors will slow down if the temperature goes up, and you may not be able to override this. This is fairly normal behavior for a Mobile PIII.
