Guest KCav Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Telephone service will not start. Get Error 1058: the sevice cannot start, either because it is disabled or because it has not been devices associated with it. Clicked on Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options -- Phone and Modem control panel can not operate. You may ahve a problem starting telephony service. Clicked on Device Manager | Modems and found two items. - Agree Systems AC97MODEM V2153dx64. This device is working properly - Use this device (enabled). - Standard Modem Properties - This device is working properly. Use this device (enabled). What do Ineed todo to get the Telephony service start? -- KC
Guest JCB Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 RE: Telephone service not running Did you look at the start-up type in Services.msc to verify that it is currently disabled? If so, change the start-up to Automatic and then manually start it, or reboot your machine. Afterwards, type Net Start at a cmd-line to list running services -- JCB\1059 "KCav" wrote: > Telephone service will not start. Guest KCav Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 RE: Telephone service not running It was disabled. I enabled it and changed startup type to automatic. Then I tried to start it manually. It did not start. I rebooted it didn't start and tried again to start it manually. The error message said could not start the Telephony service on local computer. ERROR 1503 The service is not responding to start request in a timely fasion. There are two services listed under dependencies. Both are started. Under Hardware Profile the workgoup the notebook belongs to is shown. Under path to executable it says C:\WINDOWS\Sytem32\svchost.exe -k tapisrv. On a notebook where Telephony service has started it says -k netsvcs. Could this be relevant? -- KC "JCB" wrote: > Did you look at the start-up type in Services.msc to verify that it is > currently disabled? Guest JCB Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 RE: Telephone service not running Try setting the startup type to Manual - some services which are not always needed do not start at boot-up, but rather when called upon by another service, etc. If the status for the TapiSrv (telephony) service is stopped, it's only a problem if it is needed for the fax, remote access auto connection manager, or remote access connection manager. Even some services with Automatic start-up will shut down if not needed by the system. -- JCB\1059 "KCav" wrote: > It was disabled. I enabled it and changed startup type to automatic. Guest KCav Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 RE: Telephone service not running Hi JCB, I changed Start type to Manual - the same error occurred. This notebook is for a roaming user, therefore Telephony needs to work, and I also need to setup security properly. Since Telephoney doesn't work, it seems Device Manager is not detecting reality. How can I findout what files ar being accessed and what those files are doing? - KC "JCB" wrote: > Try setting the startup type to Manual - some services which are not always > needed do not start at boot-up, but rather when called upon by another > service, etc. If the status for the TapiSrv (telephony) service is stopped, > it's only a problem if it is needed for the fax, remote access auto > connection manager, or remote access connection manager.
