XP closing problem

When I turn off my computer a error box pop up saying "can't read (write? I

forgot) 0x020e029a.

After a few seconds my computer is off without any more hiccups. It happens

almost everytime recently when I shut down. And my computer would turn on as

usual without any problem apparantly (only that it takes a long while,

several minutes in running 100% CPU for svchost.exe before I can use the CPU

power for application).

What does that mean? Is my computer infected?

Help......

Possibly - but let's check a few things first.

- Let's fix up your Windows Updates...

Get Dial-a-Fix:

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:

- Windows Installer

- Windows Update

- all the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"

Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO"

Reboot...

Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237

(You may need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce" right

after an additional reboot - immediately after logging in.)

Download/Install the 927891 patch.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A81B0CD-A0B9-497E-8A89-404327772E5A

Reboot.

As for the error - look for it in your Event Log (Start button --> Run -->

eventvwr --> OK) and let us know what it actually says. ;-)
