Guest Trevor Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Trying to reinstall XP on a PC and set up says it cannot copy driver.cab. If I skip this it hangs on a few other files but retry will read them in, but as it won't cop driver.cab, I cannot re-install XP
Guest Kelly Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Re: Setup cannot copy driver.cab Try another CD and/or during the install open the drive and clean that one and reinsert. It may be scratched at that point. Applies to the WinXP installation as well: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314810/en-us (Method 1) Note that this problem may occur also due to a boot sector virus and due to overclocking the CPU. Good luck. -- d-d

Remove and reseat the memory, or replace it with known-good memory. HTH -pk

For pure testing purposes and with the intention of removing them straight away I tried a XP Pro CD and an XP Media Centre Live Edition and both loaded fine but not Home Edition.
