Guest bretman Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Do I have any downgrade ability if I bought a new laptop with vista and need to have XP on it for work purposes. I have Vista home premium and need to get XP on the computer. Or..... if anyone wants to trade a new HP laptop with dual-core for any other laptop with XP on it, I would be open to offers.

Sorry, the only way to do this is to format the drive and install XP. The same applies for a downgrade from XP Pro to Home, by the way. Before doing this, it would be a really good idea to be sure that there are actually XP drivers for the laptop's hardware. It's very likely that there are, but afterwards is the wrong time to find out that there aren't. HTH -pk

Your cheapest option would probably be to purchase an OEM version of Windows XP and a new hard drive for your laptop. Swapping the hard drives should be a 5 minute job at best. Then you can install Windows XP on the new hard drive and keep the old drive with Vista on it for future use. Or you could swap the drives back and forth, using Vista at home and XP at work. Non worked. After talking with 20+ people about the problem, non of them had a solution nearly as perfect as yours. Your right, new hard drive is the way to go. Thanks again
Guest Dave B. Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Re: Vista to XP Trying to run XP on a USB drive and trying to run it virtually are 2 different things, the first will not work, the second, using an app like Virtual PC, should work. But I'd also go with Ron's suggestion. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "bretman" <bretman@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6E331FAB-0640-4C68-981A-EB88003010AF@microsoft.com... > > > "Ron Martell" wrote: > >> bretman <bretman@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >> >> >Do I have any downgrade ability if I bought a new laptop with vista and >> >need >> >to have XP on it for work purposes.
