Re: system restore

Hi,

Going back more then a week or two can often cause more problems that it

fixes. Boot to Safe Mode and try restoring from there.

Starting Windows XP in Safe Mode:

If there are any Norton applications installed, read the next link.

"Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . "

http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

Here are some more troubleshooting steps to take when System Restore fails

to restore:

1. System Restore should never be used to go back more than a week or

perhaps 10 days at the absolute maximum. Going back any further than

that is liable to cause more problems than it resolves. The idea use

for System Restore is "put my computer back to the way it was when I

started it up yesterday morning" or "Turn it back to just before I

installed Super Crappola version 13".

2. For detailed information on System Restore see MVP Bert Kinney's

System Restore pages: http://bertk.mvps.org/index.html

Good luck

Re: system restore

I first tried Sat points. but they crashed. so I just kept going back.

reason was because an XP update (only change over wknd) now prevents access

to a DB on the set.

I will try SAFE tomorrow.

thanx

Hello,

The chances are that if one Restore Point is no good, then they're all

no good, since they are all "chained" together..

You can try removing all but the last Restore Point using the Disk

Cleanup utilty in your Start => Programs => System Tools. See if you

can restore to that point. If not, you'll have to reset System Restore

by disabling it in My Computer => Properties => System Restore (Turn

Off); then restart the computer and Turn it On again.

Bert Kinney is the resident expert on System Restore.

Suggest you uninstall the update, if you know the number. Here's how:

Luck!
