Guest txcrazy Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Is there a trick, or luck or..... tried 12 restore points, up to 1.5 months back. Some crashed on Shut Down, most seemed to run thru, but ALL rebooted with "Cannot restore" No changes made. Any words of wisdom? thanx
Guest Bert Kinney Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Re: system restore Hi, Going back more then a week or two can often cause more problems that it fixes. Boot to Safe Mode and try restoring from there. Starting Windows XP in Safe Mode: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/safemode.html If there are any Norton applications installed, read the next link. "Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . System Restore should never be used to go back more than a week or perhaps 10 days at the absolute maximum. Going back any further than that is liable to cause more problems than it resolves. The idea use for System Restore is "put my computer back to the way it was when I started it up yesterday morning" or "Turn it back to just before I installed Super Crappola version 13". 2. For detailed information on System Restore see MVP Bert Kinney's System Restore pages: http://bertk.mvps.org/index.html Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C. Guest otis Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Re: system restore I first tried Sat points. but they crashed. so I just kept going back. reason was because an XP update (only change over wknd) now prevents access to a DB on the set. I will try SAFE tomorrow. thanx "Ron Martell" <ron.martell@gmail.com> wrote in message news:f6vn93pedmgnvulrta339p6t71h1ngffnl@4ax.com... > txcrazy <anon> wrote: > >>Is there a trick, or luck or..... >> >>tried 12 restore points, up to 1.5 months back. You can try removing all but the last Restore Point using the Disk Cleanup utilty in your Start => Programs => System Tools. See if you can restore to that point. If not, you'll have to reset System Restore by disabling it in My Computer => Properties => System Restore (Turn Off); then restart the computer and Turn it On again. Bert Kinney is the resident expert on System Restore. Suggest you uninstall the update, if you know the number. Here's how: http://www.pcdoctor-guide.com/wordpress/?p=2720 Luck!
