Guest rubberlugs Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Sorry, off topic. In layman's terms, what is the difference between Linux and Unix? If I wanted to learn these two platforms, can anyone recommend any software to use

There are lots of dedicated Newsgroups on each of those OS'es that can help you get started. There are several GUI shells available for Unix. You can pretty completely ignore the command line, if you want to. >- Linux is pretty much UNIX with a few tweaks and a GUI (Graphical >user interface) like Windows Linux is the result of a project by Linus Torvalds to write a free, open source operating system. It is Unix-like, but is not bouind by any Unix trademarks or copyrights. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(DTS) Slattery_T@bls.gov http://members.cox.net/slatteryt
