I cannot sign in with onedrive on my laptop but can in browser. Tried all online help.

I cannot sign in with onedrive on my laptop. It either says there is an error and "fix it" correctly takes me to my files in a browser, or says there is a problem, "try again later". I did the reset commands and removed the onedrive default settings as instructed. I have rebotted after each attempt. I still cannot sign on and get the same errors. What else can I try? By the way, some of the info suggests onedrive will reinstall and ask for local folder designation - never seen it.
