Trying to submit new version of fingerprint but it is "too similar" to the one that doesn't work

I set up fingerprint recognition on my new laptop but it is quite unreliable, and having it work intermittently is more annoying than not having it in the first place.I tried re-recording the same finger but it gets rejected because "that fingerprint is too similar to one that is already set up". Why is this a blockage? If it can record all ten of my fingers individually, why can't it save two versions of the same fingerprint, or let me overwrite the unreliable one with a new version?I could understand if it rejected a fingerprint that was too different to the saved ones, but "two similar" mak
