How do I fix automatic updates?

I use my computer nearly every day for my occupation, and I have Windows 11. My laptop occasionally says that it tried to update at night, however it could not shut down as another app was preventing it. I then have to update it the next day as a have another issue I will mention elsewhere that forces me to update, and this delays my schedule. Is there any way I can avoid this, like closing certain applications, or letting it bypass them?
