PC Takes Forever To Go To Sleep

I click the Windows icon and then hit Sleep. The screen shuts off and the flashing lights on the mouse and keyboard shut off but the PC stays on, sometimes for a good two minutes before finally going to sleep. Today it stayed on for five minutes.... and another five..... then I just manually turned it off. That might happen again when I'm done here.Why is this happening? Why won't it just instantly go to sleep like it used to?
