user profile cannot be loaded

start up screen only comes up with my name and a place to put either my pin or password. neither work. it says user profile cannot be loaded. i've gone through the message board and tried things that have been suggested. I cannot otherwise get past this page. I can press shift and restart to get into trouble shooting, but that is it, and nothing is fixing this. how do I fix? how do i get past this?
