Guest Rayees Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Hi I have a server which don't have a floppy drive. If I need to take a ASR backup and restore the same, how should I go about it ?? Since Floppy drives/disks are primitive day by day many new servers are shipped without these drives. Is it possible for me use device like Pen drive ?? I tried the other option of using External USB Based floppy drive. But this is not working. Can someone throw some light on how do I go about, and what is the best practice ?? with kind regards Rayees
Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Re: Automated System Recovery - Query Hi Rayees, This is what Microsoft says about it.. " I want to do an Automated System Recovery (ASR) backup, but my computer does not have a floppy drive. Cause: When you restore your system files in an ASR restore, Backup requires that you insert a floppy disk containing the ASR backup files. Solution: Perform an ASR backup on the computer without the floppy drive. Copy the asr.sif and asrpnp.sif files located in the %systemroot%\repair directory to another computer with a floppy drive, then copy those files onto a floppy disk. Important ..Before running the ASR restore, you must attach a floppy drive to your computer. " http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/4586ec82-25f6-468f-a857-19bc23eca2981033.mspx?mfr=true So just keep an old floppy drive in storage to hook up in restore situations. Guest TIwang Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 RE: Automated System Recovery - Query Hi Ray we have similary problems and are waiting for an USB memory stick which can resolve the problem - but - you say that you have problems with a USB based floppy - ehhh - normally this works - if you can't get this to "work" (you are missing a bit of details why it doesn't work) you might need a bios upgrade on this server. best regards /ti "Rayees" wrote: > Hi > > I have a server which don't have a floppy drive.
