Guest Guus Ellenkamp Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 I have a server which shows a user desktop background. The user logged off, but the logoff process does not seem to complete. I can access all the server functions, including remote computer management. However, it refuses to accept a shutdown command remotely (and locally I cannot issue it of course). I don't like to hard reset this server of course. The shutdown command seems to return error 15, which is displayed in a dialog box when trying to shutdown through computer management console. Please advise.
Guest Keith Wilcox Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 RE: System won't shut down Hi Guus, Just to be clear in my own mind, presumably you have tried the following: 1) Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the logon screen (locally), where a domain Administrator would then be able to complete the log-off process, or 2) Remotely, from a command prompt (and again, as a domain Administrator, ideally from another server), the command: shutdown.exe /r /f /m \\SERVER [where SERVER is the name of the server that won't shut down]. 3) Or, can you use Remote Desktop (C:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe in Windows XP Pro) to log onto the server and shut it down from there? Kind regards, Keith "Guus Ellenkamp" wrote: > I have a server which shows a user desktop background. The user logged off, > but the logoff process does not seem to complete.
