SweatyOmnivore Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Hi guys have a computer here and the wireless is completely missing. theres not even a device in device manager. have tried re-installing driver but still nothing. its a compaq presario f560EM. Dont know if this will also help but the wireless switch led stays on even if i switch the switch wireless off. I think the wireless card might have kicked the bucket but wanted to check. Quote
Seth Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 It probably has, but try this: Pull the wireless card, the battery, and the AC power for a few minutes. Put it all back and see if the wireless appears. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Is it an ASUS board? they have some newer updates on the site for the built in wireless - But it's not even in Device Manager, and the wi-fi light stays on even when the switch is off. Dalo Harkin Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 (edited) Where have you installed the driver from - the MOBO disk? also if the LED is staying on then there could be a problem with the device as you suspected, when you say the 'button' - the LED could just be knackered and staying on. Seth Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Not being in device manager - no driver --It would still show in DM without a driver, plus Sweaty already loaded the driver (maybe he shorted it out:D) wi-fi light staying on - no signal --The light just shows if the wireless card has been disconnected from the mobo via the switch. If it stays on when the switch is off, then chances are the card is hooped. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 The switch or the LED may be knackered without the device itself being toasted! Possible, but extremely unlikely. Especially given the fact that it doesn't even show in Device Manager at all. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Kind of weird about the card being soldered right to the board. I specialize in laptop hardware problems, and have never seen one like that. Might be something to do with North American models / UK models. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
