DirtyPolo Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Anyone know the cure to this problem... If I run firefox for like, a whole day, using various number of tabs etc, after a few hours my pc will slow down and sometimes freeze completly, so I bring up task manager to find out that Firefox is using well over 200,000K and this just keeps going up, never down... I've tried finding out how to stop it taking all this memory as it obviously doesn't need this much, but it doesnt realse it when it's done using it... the only way i can get rid of it, is to shut down firefox and reopen again but that's a pain if I'm busy working on something =/ Quote Cooler Master HAF 932Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.3GHzAsus P5K Premium Black Pearl2GB OCZ reaper 1066MHZATI Radeon HD4850Pictures! Tootech Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Do you run it with addons/plugins? They can take up alot of memory. Just looked at my own browser usage for comparison - Opera and IE7 open together. Opera 260Mb, IE7 196Mb. Yours was about 200Mb, which is about the same. Just wondering if there is another issue here - what version of Windows do you run, do you know how much memory is installed in your machine. Tootech. Quote

Plastic Nev Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hi, have you been over to Firefox and asked there? I remember at the time the memory hogging was a big issue, and version 3 was supposed to address it. Firefox themselves will be interested to know there is still a problem, and may want you to try various things themselves. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. DirtyPolo Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Yeah there is something wrong :( And no, not yet i haven't Nev, I might to soon if it carries on. Sorry I've been away for a while :P Time to hijack my own thread, Another problem I'm having with firefox and Vista is the DEP settings... 5 times today, firefox has closed for DEP reasons, which has annoyed me and I haven't been on any dodgey websites or anything that could flag up as dangerous. How can i get round this? As you cannot turn off DEP for Firefox, it says it MSUT be on for Firefox no matter what, yet it closes every 5 minutes! =/ If you can help then thanks :D as I have to do a lot of my work online and it's not good if it keeps closing... and I don't like IE to switch to.
