Guest gilliano56 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 OS Windows XP Pro, SP2. Unintentionally I installed the Asian Fonts on my PC and now when I am in some of my graphic programmes choosing a font to use, when I stand on one of these fonts it causes my pc to freeze and I have to go out of the programme I am in. When I look at these fonts through a font viewer under "Installed Fonts"I see that they have a @ sign in front of their name? In the Windows Font folder there are no fonts with the @ sign for me to delete. I would like to uninstall/delete these fonts but haven't found a way to do so. Can anybody help me here, it's driving me crazy? I have asked this question in other forums but haven't received a reply that solved the problem. Thanks so much.

Guest gilliano56 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Re: Un-installing/Deleting Asian Fonts Thanks Malke for your reply, however I did write in my message "In the Windows Font folder there are no fonts with the @ sign for me to delete". I wish there were, it would make life much easier! I probably need to delete them through the registry? Any ideas anyone? "Malke" wrote: > gilliano56 wrote: > > OS Windows XP Pro, SP2. I expect you are seeing the @ sign because the fonts aren't displaying correctly. Can you delete them from the font viewer you are using? If not, then the font viewer must give you some sort of name to search for. You may need to search manually or maybe even do a System Restore to before you installed the fonts. Guest gilliano56 Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Re: Un-installing/Deleting Asian Fonts Thanks again Malke for your reply. I can't delete the fonts from my font viewer because I get the warning message: "Unsupported or unknown font type". I know the names of the fonts in question, some of them are: @Dotum, @Batangche... I tried looking in the registry for them but they didn't appear in the Windows font file. I can't do a System Restore today because I installed them a couple of months ago. It's strange that in the font viewer these fonts are listed as installed, but where can they be if they're not in the Windows font file? Any further ideas most welcome. I'm so sorry but fonts are not really my area of expertise. However, if you installed the fonts a couple of months ago and haven't had the problem until recently, perhaps the cause is something else. I'm really sorry that I couldn't help you. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers http://www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User

Hi gilliano56 Try this: Go to Control Panel | Regional and Language Options and click on the Languages tab. UN-check the box that says: "Install files for East Asian languages" and OK your way out. Then reboot. That should get 'em. Let us know how you get on :-) -- Nightowl
Guest gilliano56 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Un-installing/Deleting Asian Fonts Thanks Malke and Nightowl for your replies. Actually Nightowl what you suggest is exactly what Microsoft state in an article on Installing Asian Fonts. However, although I am Administrator, I can add check boxes but can't seem to delete those that are already checked. Any suggestions? Thanks. Guest gilliano56 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Un-installing/Deleting Asian Fonts Forgot to add that the box that says: "Install files for East Asian languages" is unchecked already. So tried, unsuccessfully, to uncheck the boxes of the code page conversion tables. So it wasn't exactly what Nightowl suggested. "gilliano56" wrote: > Thanks Malke and Nightowl for your replies. Hi gilliano56 I was going to reply to your previous post then saw this one :-) Hmm. . . without seeing your computer I can't be sure exactly what settings you have, but here's what I would try: First, re-tick the box for "Install files for East Asian languages" and let Windows re-install them. Actually it may not reinstall them but it should "re-recognise" them so that you *can* uninstall them. But don't try that yet! Still on the Languages tab, click the Details button and remove any language and keyboard services you have installed other than your default one (I don't know where you are but am guessing US?) Then try unchecking "Install files for East Asian languages" if it still is checked -- I'm not sure if removing the language support might disable it. Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on :-) -- Nightowl
Guest gilliano56 Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Re: Un-installing/Deleting Asian Fonts Thank you so much Nightowl, that did the trick! Such an easy solution! I didn't even un-install the language and keyboard services that I had added, just re-installed and un-installed the Asian Fonts! BTW the @ symbol before a font's name indicates that the text will be written vertically. Thanks again for your help and to everybody else.
