when I try to do a clean XP installation on my hdd, after accepting the F8,

somewhere along the line I get this error

"DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS". The hdd is an old one

but I reformat it before the installation. Any idea what is wrong with it?

Thanks

Christine

New Stop Error to me:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797129.aspx

Why are you trying a new clean installation of XP?

How is your Windows XP CD described on the face of theCD? Doesn't the

error message name the driver?

Hope this helps.

Re: DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS

The original OS is not win XP. The problem been resolved because of the

failure of the cd rom drive. After changing the cd rom drive, the

installation was able to complete and I was able to the WU/activate. After

that However, discovered that in order to boot up, the XP cd must be inside

the cd rom driver, otherwise it will

not boot up, even though the first boot is hd.

It will only boot up with the xp inside and not hitting any key when asked.

Why is that the xp cd must be inside even when first boot is hdd? Any idea to

resolve the issue is much appreciated as it driving us nuts, thanks

How do you know this "when first boot is hdd"? Have you made changes in

the BIOS? The hard drive is normally second or third in the boot

sequence after the floppy and or the CD drive.

Try Start, Run, type msconfig and hit ENTER. Copy the details of what

appears in the boot.ini tab and post the information here.

What was the original OS? How is your Windows XP CD described on the

face of the CD?

Bios set to 1st boot as Atapi cd rom, then hdd and also try to set as hdd,

cd rom.- all give the same message. The 3rd boot is disabled/grayout

Here is the boot.ini details

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating system]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home

Edition"[/noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Seems strange when I do a search for BOOT.INI file (including hidden

files)- result nothing.

Thanks for your time.

Found the Boot.ini and after that did a fixboot through the Recovery Console

but the problem remains the same. That is it will not boot if there is no XP

in the cd rom drive (irrespective of the priority boot)........... why

..why...thanks

Re: DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS

Problem resolved through some settings in the bios. However another problem

crop up even before I settle the boot problem. Now, when I shut down the pc

start>turn off >turn off, the pc will shut down but it will immediately

restart and back up to desktop. I dont remember making changes other than

those to solve the boot problem. How can I stop the pc from rebooting by

itself.
