Installing Updates Message

I posted this recently and received a reply from John Haverty. I thought my

problem was solved but it reappeared and continues. After Start, Turn Off

Computer, I get the choice of installing updates. I choose this, get to

Logging Off, Saving Settings, and

then installing update 1 of 1, Do Not Turn Off or Unplug, etc. I must go

through three of these cycles including the installing update 1 of 1, until

the computer shuts down.

When I want to shut down the next time, I have to go through the three

cycles again. I know I can select Shut Down without installing updates, but

what is going on?

Thanks

Roger

Hi Roger

If this is a security/critical update (not upgrade) then try the correct

newsgroup

http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

You surely must have some indication what is trying to get installed - is it

from MS via the yellow shield on the task bar/system tray?

If it is as you have said, you went into WU, get the KB number, go to here

and download to desktop or burn to disc.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7

After download, work offline, disable all AV, antispy progs, then try

install.

OR

Try this way for repeated offers of updates.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910339

With updates, there are many different ways to get a download to install.

Not all seem to work for all. The above is just a couple that might work

for you.

If it is not a security/critical and is of no importance that you install

it, then stick it in the hidden folder in WU Home.

Good luck
