Guest inderpaul_s@yahoo.com Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Hello can anyone tell me if I was to purchase an OEM copy of Windows XP SP2 with the label MDG on the CD itself whether I will have any issues with the installation on a *non* MDG computer ?

Thanks for the reply. BTW MDG is the MDG Computer company that sells really cheap PC's.

I don't know anything about MDG in particular, but you should be aware that many such branded OEM copies of Windows are BIOS-locked to the particular motherboard they came with, and won't work on other computers. Are you thinking of buying such a copy? If so, I would be very careful. Don't do it unless you are absolutely sure it will work on other motherboards. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup

If the computer you try to put it on is not an MDG computer - and probably even if it's not that *model* of MDG computer - you get off to a "running stop" in trying to install the OS at all. Tony
Guest peter Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Re: Windows XP OEM CD (MDG) I know what MDG is.. Chances are that the OEM version of VIsta supplied by MDG is locked to their systems/BIOS only. Most major computer manufacturers do this. It might even be a "Recovery: disk only...which would wipe the HD and reinstall VISTA and other programs that came with the MDG peter <inderpaul_s@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:1190768195.974534.179780@57g2000hsv.googlegroups.com... > On Sep 25, 5:15 pm, "peter" <pe...@nowhere.net> wrote: >> you will have issues............ >> peter<inderpau...@yahoo.com> wrote in message >> >> news:1190760665.280086.270520@d55g2000hsg.googlegroups.com... >> >> >> >> > Hello can anyone tell me if I was to purchase an OEM copy of Windows >> > XP SP2 with the label MDG on the CD itself whether I will have any >> > issues with the installation on a *non* MDG computer ?- Hide quoted >> > text - >> >> - Show quoted text - > > Can you tell me what sort of issues please ? Guest Bob I Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Re: Windows XP OEM CD (MDG) That's sort of like buying a Ford key because they are cheap and wondering if it will be ok to use in your Lexus. You likely will have paid for what is as useful to you as an AOL version 2 CD. inderpaul_s@yahoo.com wrote: > Hello can anyone tell me if I was to purchase an OEM copy of Windows > XP SP2 with the label MDG on the CD itself whether I will have any > issues with the installation on a *non* MDG computer ? >

MDG is a local computer assembler company (OEM.) If you are buying it from MDG, they must sell you a qualifing hardware component with it. Chances are that this OEM version may be a "generic" OEM version with MDG tweaks or a "BIOS" locked version that requires MDG branded motherboard. It is your call on what to do since you will only discover the problem at time of install. BTW: Microsoft will not provide direct support of this OEM version since MDG is still in business.

Very likely, yes you will have problems if you don't have the computer the disc is targetted for. Probably serious hardware problems too. Sounds like you're buying from a bad source; I'd get away from there. Pop`
