My usb memory card reader was installed and i was using without any

recognition or transfer problems, but then today i plugged the "SAME"

port as everytime i plug, but XP said "new hardware is found" bla bla

bla... I was inserting device slowly and the card was on it.

What could be the reasons?

Thanks.

as long as the device

works and windows

is functioning, i would

not spend anytime

wondering "why".

Re: New hardware is detected although it was installed before (usb)

XP's USB 2.0 or previosuly installed device detection is not reliable.

Sometime it has no problems, sometimes it has. Is it about SP2's built-

in USB controller drivers?

Re: New hardware is detected although it was installed before (usb)

well, that is an interesting

statement. but i don't

think the reliability is

software based.

instead, i think it is

a combination of things

with emphasis on hardware

and available resources

available to the usb system.

the usb system is unique

because it can provide power

to your usb devices. but

if the usb device requires

more power, then it likely

needs to have an ac/dc adaptor.

if we look at this from

a different perspective,

i think you would find

it reliable if you only

had the windows operating

system installed on the

computer. i mean

"only" windows and

nothing more.

however, i do understand

what you are trying to describe.

maybe there are a couple of

things that can help.

firstly, see if there are

any conflicts with

hardware. you can run

msinfo32 and find any

conflicting devices.

secondly, somewhere at

microsoft.com there is

a somekind of a download

for the usb system. i think

it was designed for laptops

but it seems to work fine

for the desktop as well.

if i recall the criterion is

usb + power

as mentioned it is a unique

download and not widely

distributed. let me know

if you find it....

Never had with W2k SP4. But XP SP2 had it. The annoying thing is that

kind of stupid behaviours occured for people except me.
