Windows XP Home SP2

Internet Explorer 7

===============

I was running scf /scannow.

From time to time it stops the checking, with the message:

"WINDOWS FILE PROTECTION:

Files that are requiered for Windows to run properly must be copied to the

DLL Cache.

Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM."

This is the CD I am using inserted in the CD-ROM.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Re: Windows File Protection

You don't necessarily need to use the XP CD(Running SFC /scannow) if you follow these

directions on this site:

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

My Dell already has the I386 folder on the c: drive & perhaps others do too, so check

that 1st.

<snip>

I like to have the I386 folder from the XP CD installed on the computer as well.

After doing this I then modify the registry to tell it the source path for these

files... Why? Well not only does this prevent 99% of request for the the XP CD with

Windows File Protection. But the I386 folder also contains many other files that are

sometimes needed by the operating system and this stops those requests for the XP CD

too!

Yes you need the xp cd installed for Sfc /Scannow to work.Usually the problem

you have is due to adding another hd or cdrw/dvd,etc.Go to run,type:regedit

In regedit,expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/microsoft/windows/set-up/

open sourcepath.L.click on the cdrom or rw thhat has xp cd running,go to

edit,

set as it shows in my computer,close out,reset other(s) the same for the

cd,exit

when thru...
