Guest BoxCarFive Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Hi, My original Office 2000 cd is corrupt and am therefore unable to uninstall the program. I tried a method suggested here but was not only unsuccessful, it has caused all sorts of problems with my PC's operation particualrly with Outlook Express spell checker and running Registry Mechanic . Whenever I run these programs the Windows Installer screen comes up and continues to try to uninstall Office 2000. It becomes a vicious circle and only clicking "Cancel" repeatedly will stop it. So, I thought I needed to take drastic measures and format my hard drive and reinstall XP Pro. However, I can't do that either!! Having fromatted lots of hard drives before (including this one) I am completley baffled as to why I am no longer able to. I checked the installation CD (not OEM) which is fully licensed and valid and it checked out OK with CDSpeed. Whenever I got to the point "Press any key to boot from CD...", it would ignore it and continue to boot normally. I also tried using six bootable XP diskettes but after putting in the second one the system froze. Sure could use some help. At this point I'd be very happy to be able to simply format the hard drive. Thanks a bunch. -- Brian

If not, you know where the problem is, and need to start with another CD. If it does boot, you need to examine your system as to why the keypress is ignored. You can try borrowing any other XP (or Linux) CD and seeing if it boots differently. If your system is older and uses a USB keyboard, sometimes these load too late for CD. In that case you need a PS/2 type keyboard that is available immediately. You can also pull the drive, attach it to another system via USB2 case, and format it there. This will usually force the system to boot from CD since there is no other OS. HTH -pk

If you have any other bootable CDs, try those. That will confirm whether its a problem with the PC, or the XP install CD inself. Dave
Guest 3c273 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: uninstalling microsoft office 2000 SR-1 professional without the c I recently repaired a computer where the usb keyboard was detected by the BIOS *ONLY* if it was plugged into the usb port directly below the PS/2 keyboard port. I thought this was odd so I tested every other usb port and they would not let me "Press any key to boot from cd". If you aren't using a usb keyboard, ignore this. If you are and it still doesn't work, try a PS/2 keyboard.
