Guest Crazy Mama Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Hi I hope someone can help, I've got a new HP Deskjet 460c printer which I have tried installing with no luck (it says Data is invalid after trying to detect hardware). Everything goes fine until it tries to detect the hardware from the USB port. I contacted HP and they talked me through manually installing it through the control panel. However when we got to the bit to choose a port there were no USB ports configured. Should I have USB ports configured? If so how can I get them configured? We've tried installing it on another computer and it works fine so it isn't a problem with the printer. Many thanks, Crazy Mama
Guest kartinsky Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 RE: Trouble installing USB printer I had the same problem with my EPSON, i fixed it by turning it off, and then turning it on right when it was searching for it. Also, make sure you are following install instructions correctly, sometimes you have to cancel windows automatic hardware detected function and let the install cd do all the work.
Guest Bob I Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Trouble installing USB printer Do you have any other USB devices? Perhaps the USB ports aren't even enabled on the PC? What entries are there in the Device Manager for Universal Serial Bus controllers? Guest Crazy Mama Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Trouble installing USB printer Yes, mouse and internet are USB and camera input too. In the Device Manager I have four USB Root Hubs, USB Mass Storage Device, Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, Netopia (internet) one, and three Intel® Universal Host Controllers. When installing I do get a little bubble up saying that it has detected it but doesn't seem to manage to finish it. "Bob I" wrote: > Do you have any other USB devices? Guest Crazy Mama Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 RE: Trouble installing USB printer I've cancelled the windows automatic detection thing but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I can try turning it on at the crucial mo, but it does seem to detect it, just not finish installing it properly. Most annoying thing is that it tells you it has installed successfully when it hasn't. Guest Bob I Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Trouble installing USB printer been a while since I had to install one of those USB ones, But IIRC, the procedure requires that a certain sequence of install drivers from the setup CD, then reboot, then plug in, then turn on. BUT, the important thing is to do it in the exact order that the instructions say. I would suggest at this point to completely uninstall and disconnect everything with the printer, then reboot, and start the install over, step by step.
