Guest Tiberius Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 More backpedaling.from MS... why? because everyone just simply wants an OS that works.. and that is XP, not the Fiasco called Vista! --- http://keznews.com/3501_Microsoft_To_Extend_Windows_XP_Deadline_For_OEMs Microsoft will announce later today that it will give OEMs six additional months to sell PCs with Windows XP installed, CRN has learned. Microsoft is extending the deadline for sales of new direct OEM PCs with Windows XP installed from January 31, 2008 to June 30, 2008, according to sources close to the company. "The named accounts, the ones that have volume, have complained about the end of life for XP, and that's because adoption of Windows Vista has been slow," said one Microsoft partner who requested anonymity. "This is a pretty important development for larger partners, and it's also somewhat surprising because it shows that they've been listening to us." The move comes as little surprise to VARs and system builders who have been ripping Windows Vista off the desktops and notebooks they sell and replacing it with Windows XP ever since the next generation operating system debuted in January. "We don't really do anything with Vista right now, the requests are few and far between," said Douglas Lee, CFO and director of business development at BostonTech Partners, a Canton, Mass., solution provider. source: crn.com

Its quite informative to see that many others are of the same opinion and that we are not alone in sticking with XP (for now).

The poster who made the post was/is > trolling, but it can't face the facts as to what it does.> Actually, I'm not using Vista, I'm still on XP. I just know that those using Vista where I work have been moaning about it and it runs like a dog. So at present I've put a block on further purchases of Vista. If you've not had any problems with Vista then good, count yourself fortunate. Whilst I can't comment on other posts by "Tiberius", I don't consider this post to be trolling. It was relevant and informative. Perhaps off-topic because maybe it should have had the title prefixed with ANN since it was copying a story and not asking for help. That said, I for one am glad that Microsoft is extending it support of XP.
Guest The *Linux Pimp* Adam Albright Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Re: Microsoft To Extend Windows XP Deadline For OEMs > > If you've not had any problems with Vista then good, count yourself > fortunate. I don't count myself fortunate. I know what I am doing with any O/S. It doesn't matter if it's Apple, XP, Vista, Linux or any other O/S. Below are my reasons for being on Vista, and XP can't touch it. Sure, Vista may have some problems with its initial roll out just like Win 2K, and XP did as well, and most companies will only go to a new O/S when they are forced to do so, because of new technology. And they are going to go to Vista, just like they have done in the past with the previous versions of the NT classed O/S. <http://www.iis.net/articles/view.aspx/IIS7/Extending-IIS7/Getting-Started/How-to-Take-Advantage-of-the-IIS7-Integrated-Pipel> <http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/04/20/Cool-new-IIS7-Features-and-APIs.aspx> <http://www.aspnetpro.com/opinion/2006/08/asp200608jg_o/asp200608jg_o.asp> <http://www.code-magazine.com/Article.aspx?quickid=060103>

Correct, they will make more money on the only OS they have that actually works! (its called XP) I am not against Microsoft... I say that they should make good and usable products. XP happens to be the last good one they made! So lets stick with that until they wise up and make the next version of windows (if they will survive as a company until then). Vista is unfixable and no service pack with save the day. If MS wants to save themselves they should cancel vista NOW and put all their efforts on a new OS while they still have the time "HeyBub" <heybub@gmail.com> wrote in message news:eql80IdAIHA.5980@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Tiberius wrote: >> More backpedaling.from MS... why? because everyone just simply wants >> an OS that works.. and that is XP, not the Fiasco called Vista! >> > > What a silly conclusion! > > Micros~1 extended the deadline because they calculated they could make > more money by so doing. >
