Guest Howard Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Hello. I have a 3 yr old Toshiba laptop, whose hard drive crashed. It has (had?) a valid official copy of Windows XP Professional on it. My question is -- if I get a new, blank disk drive, can I somehow re-install Windows XP without having to buy a new copy all over again? Thank you.

Jus tthe hard disk drive died? As long as you have the installation media - you can replace the hard disk drive in the laptop and install just fine. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

You would need to contact the Laptop manufacturer to get a copy of XP to install to your new HDD. If you have a XP cd which came with your laptop, then you're ready to go. Good Luck.
