Guest toomuchknowledgeformyowngood Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Here is the deal, yesterday my computer was attacked by a trojan horse type virus, with low risk. symantic gave me steps to remove the virus, and now i am locke out of my computer, all it does is reboot in safe mode and tell me the security log is full. Everything I have tried has failed and even as the adminstrator I can not gain access to my computer. Here is what symantic had me do: 1. Disable syslem restore 2. update virus definition 3. reboot in safe mode( here is where they messed me up by having me run msconfig, then goto the system configuration utility, and then I clicked SAFEBOOT) This is as far as I got, for when I restarted I was locked out with no way to get back in. I am fortunate that I just backed up all of my data, so I am not worried about losing anything vital. i just want to get my computer back. HELP!!!!!

What exactly is happening? Can you post a link to these steps Symantec gave you? Have you tried using the default password for the Administrator account (blank)?
Guest Kelly Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Re: Stuck in a Jam need some help??? Hmm, other than a repair install - this would have helped: If you log on to the computer remotely, you may receive the following message: "The security log on this system is full." This issue occurs because no more events can be logged to the Security log on the computer. When events cannot be written to the Security log, only accounts that are members of the Administrators group can log on to the computer. Once you have an account that is a member of the Administrators group, follow these five steps to specify that Security log events can be overwritten: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer. Right-click Security, and then click Properties. In the Log Size area of the Security Properties window, click the "Overwrite events as needed" option under when maximum log size is reached. Click OK. Close Event Viewer. Guest Bert Kinney Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: Stuck in a Jam need some help??? Hi, Disabling System Restore was a big mistake. It's better to have a infected system rather than a system that will not boot. Symantec support is clueless.
