Guest Jack Nation Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 When I use the sound icon in my system tray to adjust my speakers, it beeps. How can I get rid of the sound and still use the sound icon for adjustment only? -- Jack Nation

Guest Jack Nation Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: Want to eliminate sound No, it didn't work. What you suggested (checking the mute box on the volume icon), disabled ALL sounds. I wish to disable the beep for the volume slider only, not for other applications. Guest Nepatsfan Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: Want to eliminate sound Don't follow the advice I provided in that thread. Do what kenkcj suggested, click on the volume slider and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to change the volume level up or down. Would you point me to the setting > you refer to please. Open Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds tab, scroll down to "Default Beep", click to highlight, scroll up to, and select the top "Sounds:" item, which is (None), click OK to select this sound event. If you use the XP Category view, you would click "Sounds Speech and Audio Devices", "Sounds and Audio Devices", Sounds tab, then locate the "Default Beep" and change it. -- Joe =o)

You end up at the same spot, depending on what view your Control Panel is set to use. If you have a sound volume control other than that supplied by XP, that one might use a different sound event, one it added to the Sounds list. But my "Sound Blaster Audigy" still uses the Default Beep sound. I really don't know what else to suggest.. If it's a beep from the speaker in the tower, there might be a setting in the BIOS to disable error beeps and that might help. -- Joe =o)
Guest Nepatsfan Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Re: Want to eliminate sound I'll try to explain this one more time. If you left click on the speaker icon in the notification area the volume slider will pop up. If there's a dotted line surrounding the slider simply use the scroll wheel on your mouse to move the slider up or down. If you right click on the speaker icon and select either "Open Volume Control" or "Adjust Audio Properties" from the pop up menu, you have to use a different approach. Once you've made your selection, place the mouse on one of the bars on either side of the slider and left click. This should place the dotted line around the slider. You can now use the scroll wheel to adjust the volume.
