Guest rsegoly Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Hello, I have XP desktop connected to wireless network with Linksys USB adapter, its been working fine for long time. Recently the connection does not work any more The symptom is that the wireless connection on my network will disable itself and when I try to enable, it will claim it failed connecting to the device. I installed the wireless adapter on another machine works fine. I removed the drivers and reinstalled, same problem. I tried all USB ports on the desktop, same problem. So it leaves only the Windows as the prime suspect. What drivers on Windows do I need to reinstall or what other solutions are recommended? Roni

Make sure that there are no WLAN configuration tools (manufacturer) running in the background (system tray). Next, display all WLAN connections, remove that particular WLAN connection (not the adapter or driver) and create a new connection with the appropriate parameters (SSID, encryption type, key etc.). Make also sure that all other settings (eg. channel#, IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g) have been set correctly. -- d-d

I see now there is another issue, if I try to access the network places from desktop, computer will freeze, I can do it only via control panel, but then again, when I access via control panel and choose to see my network places it will freeze, so I think the issue is OS. Can I install network drivers without reinstalling OS? Roni

No. Doubleclick the WLAN icon in the notifcation area (system tray) > Show wireless networks > Advanced settings > Wireless Networks (or similar, translated on-the-fly). > I see now there is another issue, if I try to access the network > places from desktop, computer will freeze, I can do it only via > control panel, but then again, when I access via control panel and > choose to see my network places it will freeze, so I think the issue > is OS. Follow the given advice since that problem might be resolved afterwards. > Can I install network drivers without reinstalling OS? The network drivers do not cause your problems, most likely. Good luck. -- d-d
