Guest locoLindy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 I just did a clean install of XP Pro. When I attempt to access either the D drive (DVD/CD) or E drive (CD-RW) the following message appears d:/ is not accessible Incorrect Function. A search of Microsoft's knowlege base would like to blame the problem on Roxio or some other CD writing software. (Sorry, don't have any software on the machine. Can't, need the CD drive) I've gone to the device manager and updated the drivers, checked to make sure they were enabled, and even went so far as to boot from a CD...worked perfectly. I suspect it's a simple and quick problem to fix if you know what you're doing...apparently I don't! Thanks for your time and thoughts.

Guest locoLindy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: drive is not accessible incorrect function The machine is a HP Pavillion a750e Both the DVD and CD drivers were updated from the devices menu, but were found to be current. Guest locoLindy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: drive is not accessible incorrect function Thanks for the reference, but it doesn't seem to apply. I am not experiencing any of the referenced error messages. They want me to have all my recording software in place...impossible, can't get to the cd drive to install it! The registry entries they want me to delete do not exist on my machine, they're probably place there by the recording software. It's really frustrating. The error has to be in XP Pro, there is nothing else on the machine. Guest Gerry Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: drive is not accessible incorrect function Lindy There are many more third party driver than just those relating to your DVD and CD! I do hope you are not relying on Microsoft to provide all drivers! -- Hope this helps. Guest Gerry Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Re: drive is not accessible incorrect function What is the make and model of your motherboard? This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your computer: Everest Home Edition (freeware) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers. -- Hope this helps. Guest Rich Barry Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Re: drive is not accessible incorrect function If the Drive Icons show up in MyComputer try rt clicking on them select Properties>Recording>Check the box Enable Recording on this drive. Also, you could try returning to Device Manager>rt click on each drive and choose Uninstall. Restart and let XP reinstall them.
