Guest Scott M Smith Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I've lost my ability to see my workgroup computers on 3 out of 4 computers on my home network. One computer can see everything, but if I go to "My Network Places" on the other 3 computers, I can't even see the workgroup "home". What makes this even more strange is that if I manually type the name of my print server computer into the "add printers" wizard, it finds it and adds the printer. So, all my computers can print via my print server computer ------- it's just that "My Network Places" seems to have stopped working on 3 of my 4 computers. On the computer that it still works on, I can see all the other computers and access shared files. I've checked that the Computer Browser, Server, and Workstation processes are running on all 4 computers. Again, this hapened only over the last couple of weeks. I know that there was a windows upgrade that was installed, could this have caused the problem? ------ thanks in advance for your help.

Guest Scott M Smith Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Re: Can't see workgroup computers any more Thanks for the quick answer. It turns out it was my Linsys Router that was messing everything up. It's been acting flaky lately, and this is just the latest instance of a problem. Once I turned it off and turned it on again, everything worked normally. I think I need a new wireless router :-)

I think I need a new wireless router :-) If you're using workgroup computers "wireless" , it's likely to lose connection due to signal interfere, if you're using wired (CAT cable ethernet), the clients may have lost connection due not to renew DHCP lease. (try giving IPs manually in that case)

I have always had this issue, but only with Windows. Try (cold) rebooting all the PCs, wait 10 minutes, then check My Network Places. That usually does the trick, at least for me. And yes it's possible the upgrade did something to cause it. Or, in a DOS window see if you can ping another PC.
