Factory-installed OEM operating systems are typically either pre-activated at the factory or are BIOS-locked and do not require activation so long as they're installed on the computer with which they're sold. The OS will let you know, with frequent (several times a day) reminders, if you do need to activate. To check for yourself, Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows. Alternatively, Start > Run > "C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A." It will probably tell you that WinXP has already been activated. Registration is *always* optional, provides very little benefit to owners of retail licenses, and no benefit to owners of OEM licenses, so you needn't worry about it. However, if you still wish to register, simply click Start > Run > regwiz /r. > Where do i use the windows product key(i dont remember using it > anywhere)?I am a beginner to computers and stuff so please help me out in > this...Thanks in advance. You would use the Product Key *only* while re-installing the operating system, and maybe not even then, depending upon how Lenovo have configured their Recovery CD. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot
Guest Ace Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Re: how do i find out? Roughly the same time period I got mine. Lenovo ships their laptops and tablets already activated. Aside from the other suggestions you recieved, you may also find some Lenovo specific information under your laptop's service button/application. =?Utf-8?B?c2lkIHJlZGR5?= <sid reddy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in news:CEAE8CF6-F75F-441E-878D-D494B8082024@microsoft.com: > a lenovo laptop 8 months ago -- *Reply to newsgroup please. *Your mileage may vary. *Spelling/Grammar errors free of charge.
