Back up all your data to a different medium, then check

out this site:

Clean Install Windows XP

Back up your data. 1.25 GB RAM is a lot, Before going as far as a re-build have

you tried a thorough cleaning of your system. Download CCleaner for filehippo, and

jv16powertools 2007, which you will have 30 days of full functionality. Use

CCleaner to clean out temp files, and jv16 to clean and compact the registry, then

see how performance is after that, and defrag your disk. Look at all your startup

programs in msconfig, uncheck the ones you don't need. Look at your services

running (Control Panel|Administative Tools|Services), and set the services you do

not need to manual (or disable if you never use them). Take a look in task manager

to see what is running (especially when a boot up completes), this will show you

what services are running and resources being consummed.

If you continue with the re-install, again it can never be said or done enough

times, back up your data, ensure you have all (up to date) drivers, do a complete

re-format of your disk.
