Guest Cyber_Bruno Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi there, I was recently told that it was possible to upgrade an installation disc for Windows to contain SP2 on it for any future uses. As I'm currently in possession of a disc that contains XP from shortly after it's release, this would be great for when I format my hard drive in a few weeks. This mostly stems from not wanting to have my hard drive only be partially recognized and then having to partition the remaining space after upgradating Windows. Any clarification and possible how-to? Thanks.

Any clarification and possible how-to? Thanks. You need to create a "slipstreamed" installation CD. Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to follow this procedure: Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx AutoStreamer 1.0.33 http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092632287/1 CDBurner XPPro http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php Here are some other resources you might want to take a look at: How to use AutoStreamer to Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2 http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.html Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2 http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html How can I slipstream service packs into the Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 media? http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2000_xp_sp_slipstreaming.htm Universal Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49 Good luck Nepatsfan

Some are, some are not. Some OEM disks that have other updates applied can't be slipstreamed. Dell disks are commonly like this. It's easy to try. If it's a genuine MS disk, not OEM, it can almost certainly be slipstreamed. > As I'm currently > in possession of a disc that contains XP from shortly after it's release, > this would be great for when I format my hard drive in a few weeks. Any clarification and possible how-to? Thanks. Get the SP2 full install, and Autostreamer. You will need enough hard disk space and the ability to burn a CD from an image. Autostreamer will generally make the process extremely easy, but will tell you that it can't if your disk is not suitable.
